There is only one thing you can do in a city office - you cant weld a tank, shoe a horse, construct, disassemble or manufacture. The only thing you can do in an office is exchange information I can exchange information from my home office
Think of the savings in public transport, energy, time, childcare costs, transport and road costs, if those office knowledge workers could be dragged away from the coffee machine. 'We need face to face' I hear - rubbish - I worked for an International firm that built an empire on video conferencing. Our government is lagging years in technological thought.Prioritise our snails pace internet and force a paradigm shift in work by making travel to an office prohibitively expensive and intercommunication ridiculously cheap. The technology to achieve this is here - the political nous is not.
